Bridge freezes

I am using PS6 CS with Win 7 Pro, 250Gig SSD. Photoshop is running fine. But just lately, with no new installations or changes to the system, Bridge does not respond to any command.

For instance when I start Bridge it opens looking at the folder that was used last. If I try to go from User > Photos > Jan 17 back to Photos to open another folder nothing happens. After about 15 - 20 seconds the screen turns a milky white and "Not Responding" pops up, and it really does not respond, cannot even close the program. However, if I do nothing after about a further 30 to 60 seconds the program responds. So now I'm looking at User > Photos >. Now if I try to open Jun 17 it freezes, again, and a minute or so later I'll get there. But it'll freeze again when I try to open an image in Camera Raw. To put it politely this is a pain.

How can I fix this?

Thanks for any input.

David

I've had this lately. Bridge has always been slow, but in the last few days (I updated everything a few weeks ago but seemed fine) every single click I do gives me the spinning cursor, a pale "(not responding)" window and a pause of up to a couple of minutes. In other words it's useless.

In another thread an Adobe person said to reinstall it which I did, but same result. I'm on Windows 10.

Hi Andrew, thanks for your input.

Having searched for "Bridge freezing" it's clear that this has been happening for years, not one of the posts have been answered, so it's equally clear that Adobe is just ignoring the problem. I had hoped to avoid re-installing PS, and getting all the settings the way I like them. (There'd be no point in using the old Preferences file, there's no way of knowing if that is part of the problem.) However, judging from your experience, and one or two others, re-installing doesn't seem to be a solution.

I don't know if it's the same with you, but I use Bridge every time I want to open a file in PS. It is an integral part of the work-flow.

Come on Moderator of this forum, don't know who you are, but at least have the courtesy to acknowledge that there is a problem even if you don't have a solution at this time.

After restarting entirely, performance improved to at least "usable" with the odd pause and spin.

I use Bridge mainly to browse my folder of charts and diagrams done in InDesign: I can then see thumbnails of each one rather than having to rely on file name. It's a very useful feature and if I found another piece of fast software that performed the same function I'd drop Bridge like a hot stone.

It's a common refrain in these forums, but I wish Adobe would concentrate on improving performance and existing features rather than adding new bells and whistles to everything.
