I'm using Bridge 2020 on my macbook pro 10.13.6 from and external hard drive and it has frozen -- can't even quit or hide.  Help!

Disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive seems to have worked, not sure why.

Thanks, forum

Hi Cathy,

In the future, if you press Option-Commnad-Esc key that will bring up the Force Quit Panel that will let you select any application that is currently open and you can select and then Force Quit that application.

Now, with your problem, how many applications do you run from an external drive? Is this something you do often? Sometimes? Rarely?

In general, applications that are very self-contained (applications that do not have sub-components in other areas of the computer such as Backdrop or other simple one-action applications) are probably safe to run off of an external drive but applications such as Bridge, or pretty much any Adobe application that has many sub-components and links to other applications are not a good idea to run off of an external drive.

Also, how did it get there? When one installs applications, they need to be placed on the main hard drive. Did you manually move it to the external hard drive? If so, than it was busy looking for the extended pieces I just described but couldn't find them and then bogged down into freezing.

I suggest that you reinstall everything from scratch but it's also possible that you confused your system by the moving of Bridge (and anything else you manually moved) and may have to resort to using the Adobe Cleaner Tool,

Which you can use if things do not work after re-installing. If they don't, use the cleaner tool, run the installers and then leave things where they are.
