Question

Bridge gest stuck when exporting multiple files to JPG

I created a smart collection in Bridge to select all files on an SSD (where pictures are stored in subfolders) with the following conditions: file name starts with _ and ends with jpg and color profile contains Adobe. Almost 1.500 files are selected. Then I select all files in the collection and batch export converting them in jpg 100% quality keeping the same filename (basically overwriting them). It basically works but after a while (typically after 200-300 files are exported) the export process gets stuck. If I cancel the process and start again, it won't start. If I close Bridge, it doesn't close. I need to force stop Bridge closure and start again, but again after 200 exporst the process gets stuck etc etc etc

Hi @Giovanni Stoto ,
Thankyou for your feedback.

Could you share the following details about the issue:

  • Bridge version
  • Is the issue specific to particular files/format?
    • You can share the files on which this batch export didn't run.

Please share the sample file/files on which you are observing the issue at sharewithbr@adobe.com
Thanks,
Bridge Team

Hi, @Giovanni Stoto, this is because of a strange coding decision that was made several years ago where when you trash files on an external hard drive, the files are first transferred to your hard drive and then trashed from your hard drive. That's a LOT of electrons to move around.

Sadly, the only way around this is to locate the files on their hard drives by right-clicking on one of the files, selecting "Reveal in Finder/Explorer," and deleting them via Finder/Explorer. If the files are non-continuous, you can move them into a newly created folder on that external hard drive, go to that folder in Finder/Explorer, and delete the folder.

Sadly, I know they know about the issue, but I'm not at all sure why it's not fixed yet.

I'm not sure I understand...

What I am trying to do is to convert all my JPG with Adobe RGB color profile into JPG with sRGB profile overwriting them.

The smart collection is simply selecting my files from the SSD where files meet certain condition: so far so good. I select all 1.500 files and right click and batch export in JPG 100% quality. It starts but when around 200-300 pictures are provcessed, alls tops, Bridges freezes, need to force stop all and start again (of course the smart collection upon trestart does not contain files already correctly processed).

Hi, @Giovanni Stoto, my apology, I misunderstood your issue.

Basically, 1500 images is too much for one run in Bridge. I suggest splitting that up into thirds or maybe even more.

Again, sorry.
