Bridge keeps crashing. Cache management settings help? Other wisdom?

I use an external hard drive to hold high-res images and vector files used in client projects. Bridge usd to work well.  Lately, it seems to crash while loading thumbs. Any wisdom on best settings - cache or otherwise- so images load without crashing?
