Bridge: purge cache problem [edited for clarity]

​ I have been using Adobe Bridge on my mac mini for 3 years. Now I get message to purge cache, which I attempted to do.  I thought it worked but the message still came up. When I attempt to do it again it becomes unresponsive. Now it wont show any images...
