Bridge Search Function is broken

Searching for ANYTHING in Bridge, on both my Mac and Windows PC, returns either no results or limited results.  I have relied on search for many years, and it has been completely unriable for some time now.  I include "search subfolders" and have selected "if all criteria are met" and "if any criteria are met."  I have tested many different ways, and searched for items directly within a folder that I know are there., like files  created with a date or known file name.  I can SEE THOSE ITEMS but search doesn't find them.  This is a real problem.
