Question

Bridge seems to get worse with each update

Earlier versions of Bridge allowed to export the cache into the folders, where the files were located. This allowed for smooth browsing through the folders, without having to wait for it to access the cache files somewhere else, or even regenerate them, because the allocated cache size had been exeeded.

The recent versions don´t allow this anymore, they even reimporte cache date from the folders into the dedicated - limited sized - cache for all. Allthough it is possible to stop this, the cache for new files, automatically goes to the central cache, with now export to the folders possible anymore.

The reorganisation of the cache, which seems to be going on while the user is trying to work, seem to be taking time and resources, keeping hard drives rattling and displays freezing, as soon as the PC is started.

With my 300 000+  photo files on 8TB HD space, this has been going on for months now. While I can access newly added files relatively easy, as long as the aren´t more than a couple of hundred in the folder, looking up the contend of older folders or ones with many files, feels like hanging in the internet in the 90ies - in fact, I have resorted to browse through those, via Windows Explorer in recent times.

This trouble with reorganizing the cache after installing a new Version, has been a frequently recuring experience over the years - I first worked with PS 4 about twenty years ago - but this time, it  demonstrates a new level of nuisance which is starting to drive me up the wall.

The people from Adobe, who are harder to get in touch with than ever before, told us that this new system for the cache management brings great advantage for those of us working in a team network ....What about individual users like me?

Are there any useful alternatives out there?

Part of the problem is that Bridge cache functions have been modified overr the years so  all those old files have to have there cache rebuilt.

That´s analysing the problem, but no help. One week after my complaint here, I received no advice for getting my workflow back to normal, but a mail from the support team with an enquiry as to whether someone saved the problem :-((

I´m sure if the team would consist of real people aquainted with the workings of Adobe´s products, this mail would have been unneccessary, because the team would have known by now - it´s plain to see  - that no one has presented a solution for my problem.
