Question

Bridge stalls after startup

Hi all,

as of late Bridge takes a few seconds to respond / go to a destination / open a folder, etc. … after startup.

It is annoying to have to wait.

Once the first destination is opened, all works fine … until shut down and open again.

Bridge v 16.0.8 - all updated and in perfect condition

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the details. For this kind of slow start in Bridge, Adobe's official troubleshooting doc lists the steps below to try in turn — please try them one at a time and see which step changes the behaviour:

    1. Update to the latest version of Bridge (Help > Updates).

    2. Reset preferences, reset the standard workspace, and purge the cache: start Bridge and immediately press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac), then select all three options — Reset Preferences, Reset Standard Workspaces, and Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache. You can also purge the cache from Edit > Preferences > Cache (Windows) or Bridge > Preferences > Cache (Mac) > Purge All Cache Now. Note that some labels and ratings may be lost when you purge the cache.

    3. Disable startup scripts: Edit > Preferences > Startup Scripts (Windows) or Bridge > Preferences > Startup Scripts (Mac) > Disable All, then OK. If Bridge works better with them disabled, enable the scripts one by one or in small groups.

    4. Temporarily disable programs that scan or manage disk activity, such as virus protection, firewall, or disk-management software, while testing.

    5. Start Bridge with the Folders panel disabled: Window menu, deselect Folders Panel — the doc notes the Folders panel can cause slowdowns when Bridge starts.

    6. Disable the Preview and Metadata panels: Window menu, deselect Preview Panel and Metadata Panel.

    7. Set Bridge to process smaller files: Edit > Preferences > Thumbnails (Windows) or Bridge > Preferences > Thumbnails (Mac), and in Performance and File Handling enter an amount such as 100 MB in Do Not Process Files Larger Than.

    8. Change the folder Bridge opens with on startup, and make sure Bridge is not set to open a folder on a disconnected network on startup.

    9. Update the graphics adapter driver from the video card manufacturer.

If you can, please also say which operating system you are on and whether the folder Bridge opens to at startup is local or on a network drive — that helps narrow down the startup-folder steps above.
