Bridge vs. Lightroom and Backing up Bridge

Hi!

I am attempting to "catalog" my design assets that include .ai, .eps, .svg files, etc.

I have begun using Bridge as the program in which to do this. However, I'm not sure this is the best program for the job, and I'm not sure how to backup all the keywords, collections, etc. in case my computer crashes or I want to move to a new computer.

I was reading about Lightroom (classic) and how you can backup its database easily.

Which program is the one I should be using to build my catalog as I unzip the files?

Is Lightroom feasible for the file types listed above?

Any and all feedback, opinions and suggestions welcome.

Thank you!

Karen

Bridge is a file browser ONLY. It doesn't have a catalog and doesn't store anything. Keywords, ratings, etc are stored in files or in XMP sidecars.

You should look into a real backup program (to an external hard drive and/or cloud storage) to safeguard your files.

I've been using Bridge as I unzip my files and adding keywords, collections, etc.

I DO backup my files to an external drive. I would very much like to be able to backup Bridge's xml files. Where do I find said files in order to back them up and not have to start all over again.

Or would it be easier to use a different program?

There is no such thing as "Bridge's xml files."

Keywords and other file metadata are stored either in the file or in an XMP sidecar for RAW images.

Collections are bound to the drive where the files are stored, you can't backup a collection per se.

I have a set of utility scripts on Adobe Exchange which includes a Folder List Export, that will save a text file listing of folders and collections so you know what they contain. If that would help.
