Bridge will not display file metadata. Why?

I cannot get Bridge to display all the metadata categories I have chosen in Preferences.

If Bridge is to be useful, I need to see certain types of BASIC file info about the resources I'm browsing/viewing - like file dimensions and frame rate etc., but I cannot get Bridge to display this most basic and essential of info.  Why is it so hard to configure the app to display the desired info about a file?  Am I missing some basice step?

Please help!
