building script for Adobe Illustrator file conversion

I am looking for way to create script to copy illustrator files from clients folders and to convert format to jpeg and resize. I tried to use automator but without success only allowed me to select direct files not folders with files inside. I have saved my files to by contracting company and then put their clients into folders with graphics files mainly Illustrator and Photoshop. I need to resize them for use in data base program which is not able to handle large file sizes of so many files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
