Camera Raw editing is not enabled

OSX Leopard
CS4
Bridge 3
Camera Raw 5.2

In Bridge when I right click and select to open a raw file in Camera Raw i get an error message that "Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature".

There is no problem opening a raw file in Camera Raw when just Open is selected or Open With (PS) or double-clicking
So I can learn to live with it but it never was a problem in earlier versions of PS/Bridge/ACR - is it a bug?
I just had a hard drive failure and had to re-install the OS & all my apps doing various upgrades in the process.
The files that are thumbnails in Bridge were safely stored on another hard drive (not the one that failed and they were created and used with an earlier version of everything).

The camera raw plugin is in the correct folder HD>library>app support>adobe>plugins>cs4>file formats.
There are no other instances of camera raw duplicated elsewhere on the computer.

The camera is a 2 year old canon 5D so it is for sure supported.

Any ideas ?
thanks

    Mike,

OS? 10.5.5, I suppose?

Can you post a screen shot of the location where you installed ACR 5.2? It sounds like it is not correctly installed.

c
Screen shot was taken when ACR 5.1 was current. The location is the same for ACR 5.2.

For instance, one of common mistakes on the Mac is to start the path at your user Library instead of the ROOT LEVEL Library. Another mistake is failure to delete the old ACR plugin.

I've been dealing with this issue for a couple weeks now. I have yet to get it to work correctly. Bridge sees the Camera Raw plug-in and will update the thumbnails with any changes I make to the file with Camera Raw in Photoshop. I just can't get Camera Raw to work in Bridge on its own. The Camera Raw preferences do not work within Bridge, nor do any of the presets I've created...

Assuming you have activated PS after updating.

When you have used the Adobe Updater it might have gone wrong with the latest ACR (5.2)

Download the latest ACR plugin 5.2 from the Adobe site (you have to use your account or make one, its free) and replace this plugin manually in the right location (replace the existing one and make sure you have only one installed :-) )

And also refresh the preferences for Bridge using option key while restarting Bridge. Reset the preferences again to your wishes and try again.
