Camera Raw will not open to Photoshop, goes back to bridge instead

Out of the blue, 2 days ago, when I try to open a file from Camera Raw to PhotoShop as a smart object, Raw closes and goes back to Bridge. No error message. Camera Raw settings are saved. The only work-around is to then go into PhotoShop and open file from there.  Lots more keystrokes. What's going on?

    Hi, @Cindymsmith, this is a long-standing bug that gets fixed and reappears, then gets fixed and reappears again and again.

     

    While we wait for it to be fixed again, I do have a suggestion. And while this is not ideal, it at least works.

     

    Rather than opening the raw file by double-clicking in Bridge, drag the file onto PS in the Dock or (whatever they call the Dock on a PC). Since it's a raw file, it will open in ACR first but when you click the Open button this time, it will open up into PS. 

     

    This does get a bit trickier with jpg and TIF files. For them, you do have to do something (anything) in ACR first, and then drag the file onto PS. After it passes through ACR, it will open in PS.
