Question

Can’t label files in Bridge

I'm suddenly unable to rate or label my files residing on a CfExpress card connected through an external reader.  Last week I was able to, and I am still able to label other files on an Sd card through a different reader.  I tried copying the problem files  to my hard drive, but am still unable to label them.

anyone know why?  Running Windows 11.

If the camera uses this card for writing during shooting, I would never advise you to use it for anything else, including for writing back from any other programs. Only use it for camera writing and copying files to other media where you can then safely label, rate etc.

I only wrote a few non-raw files to the card to test whether other file formats can be labeled while on the card.  Normally I only use it for shooting.  A week or two ago, I was able to label Sony raw files while on the card normally, but now cannot.  It's not really feasible to copy all files over to the computer, then label them; much easier to label and cull images directly on the card.

If I were you I would accept the wisdom of Stephen_A_Marsh.  It is a  very bad workflow practice to allow Bridge to do anything with files on your camera card except to use Photo Downloader to copy them to your main storage location. Then back them up before doing anything else. Doing what you suggest is simply asking for trouble!

Hey, Jonsi3! Welcome to the Bridge Community. I'll need more details to help you figure this out.

1. What version of Bridge are you working on?

2. Is the issue specific to particular files/formats?

3. Where are the files located?

4. Do you get an error message, or what happens when you try applying a label?

Please check if the folder has the necessary read/write access where you are facing this issue. Could you try turning off the antivirus on your device and check if that helps you to solve the issue?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your response.

1.  I'm running Bridge 13.0.8.775

2. The problem seems to be with Sony raw arw files on my CfExpress card. I can label arw files on my hard drive, and I can label other file formats when copied to that cfexpress card.

3. the files are on a cfexpress card connected to my computer via a card reader.

4. I don't get an error message- nothing happens at all when I click to label or rate.

I tried disabling antivirus, but that didn't help.  How do I check read/write access?
