Can't open NEF files in Bridge

Question

I have CC 2017 with preferences for NEF set for CC 2017.  It shows my camera raw is up to date, but I get an error message that the Camera Raw preferences may need updating?

If in Bridge you go to Edit>Preferences>Camera Raw, what version does it show at the top?

Did you use Nikon Transfer?

Using Nikon Transfer is known to corrupt the nikon nefs in such a way adobe camera raw can't open them.

I finally got it worked out. I downloaded to Camera Raw 9.8. Thanks so much for all your help.
