Changing Date Created

If I change the date created on 1200 images via Bridge, why is it when I import the same photos into Lightroom the Date hasnt changed. Is there an option I'm missing that will write changes into the xmp that can be read by Lightroom?

PS: Also any changes to Date Created I make in Bridge do not reflect in Photomechanic either.
