Custom Info Panel as Bridge CC 2018 MetaData Panel

Hi,

in Bridge CC 2017 I had a custom file to add the metadata I want to view in the Metadata Panel.

This file was located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC 2017\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\MyPanel.xml.

In the same location in Bridge CC 2018 it doesn't work.

In AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\panels\MyPanel.xml it doesn't work.

In AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom\MyPanel.xml it doesn't work.

In AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\MyPanel.xml it doesn't work.

In AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\MyPanel.xml it doesn't work.

So, where should I install this file.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Pierre

This is late to reply, but have you considered Custom Metadata Panel? It's much easier to configure than FileInfo, its interface appears in the normal file viewer experience, and its forms can be exported and imported for use in groups.
We are about to release a major update, too!

Get it on Exchange

You can try the beta with all the new features on our Github page

I got it working in CC 2019! Use the
XMP Metadata UI SDK CC 2014, structure, putting the folder structure in Metadata Extensions folder, which makes it work in the file info dialog in Photoshop CC 2019. Then, to get it to work with Bridge CC 2019, you need to remove all <section> elements from your views.xml. Once I did that, all my metadata appeared in the both the metadata panel and file info dialog in Bridge.

Welp, looks like they officially don't know if XML can be added in the old manner.  Their last response to my inquiry:

thanks for providing the information. As of now we only have the options as mentioned in the blog post but I will pass on your comment to the product team here so that they can investigate more. Thanks! ^SK

Have you considered building a custom panel in JavaScript (Adobe ScriptUI)?

I hesitate to mention it because it has it's own set of bugs (mostly UI style things like text color and size), but you can make some very useful metadata panels with it.  Also, JavaScript plugins are much easier to install - just drop a single .jsx file in StartupScripts.

See the Bridge CC 2018 SDK at Adobe I/O Console

Look in the docs folder for  Bridge CC 2018 JavaScript Guide.pdf and Bridge CC 2018 JavaScript Reference.pdf

Creating a JavaScript panel requires some coding ability, but it's easier than CEP.  Yes, the way forward is CEP, but until we get some better examples and/or tools, JavaScript plugins are much more practical.

I just reached out to @AdobeCare on twitter (their support portal is not functioning) since I haven't had a chance to explore CEP.  They forwarded me this blog post about a custom keywords panel someone created for use with Adobe Experience Manager and Bridge:  Custom Keywords Panel for Bridge CC and the AEM Tags Panel Extension for Bridge CC

I'm trying to work with it to modify and get the same functionality but using my XMP properties.  I'm not super familiar with this area so I'm just stabbing in the dark.  Thought I'd post it here in case someone else might be able to figure it out quicker.

So far, I've modified the XML file they provide in the blog post to create a panel (properties section at the top of the XML), but have not been able to figure out if the the xmp_properties can be used/accessed in the body section.  The <NamespaceProperty> puts in a field with that name and it is a blank keyword field.

Hi everyone,

I am still following and still need to be able to edit the following list of metadata.

It is of interest to those using old manual lenses and those doing film photography.

pdophoto were you entering this info into a custom XML panel in 2017 or modifying the standard XMP fields?  Also, are you using Mac or Windows?  If Mac, I'm sure it would be easy to create an AppleScript for creating an XMP file that could then be loaded onto the images.  This is what I'm doing for a different system that I use and works pretty well.

Yes I was entering this info into a custom XML panel in Bridge 2017 under Windows 10

Presently I am trying to create an extension for Bridge 2018, but I am not a programmer. I do my best modifying other people's scripts.

Looks like now that Bridge is CEP compatible Adobe is suggesting that you need to create a custom panel to access/interact with this data versus how it had been done in Bridge 2017.  This is a bit of a pain as I, too, have an xml file that we've been using for the last few versions of Bridge and it is nice being able to access custom metadata fields in the same place as standard metadata fields without having to go into File Info.

I'm going to build a custom panel and will report back how well that works.  Found an updated CEP cookbook for Bridge and the current version of CEP (8.0):  CEP-Resources/CEP_8_Extensions_Cookbook_Bridge.pdf at master · Adobe-CEP/CEP-Resources · GitHub

Lots of very useful information in there.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, this is all beyond my current skill set!

Hi everyone,

I'm not a coder or a scripter, I'm a graphic designer; a lot of the above is gobbledegook to me!

I am designing a catalogue with a huge number of images in it and it would be really helpful to me to be able to add my own metadata fields. Has anyone worked out how this can be done in Bridge 2018?

It would be simple fields like width, height, colour and so on but it would help me greatly.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Ruth

most of what you are looking for can be handled with standard fields and using keyword tagging. You can set your preferences in the metadata preferences which is is the pop up menu in the metadata panel.

I was able to get the Panel Converter tool from the SDK to convert our custom panel.

We had to fix some of the invalid XML first though.

The version number at the top of your file must be 1.0

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

You must also convert any ampersands in your XML and check for malformed labels or mismatching quotations.

I do have an outstanding issue though.

The converter created a File Info panel that is usable, however my team sorely misses the panel that was visible on Bridge without hitting CTRL+I.

For our workspace, this menu panel appeared along with the other standard panels, IPTC, DICOM, File Properties, EXIF..... etc etc...

The panel xml files were saved here in 2017:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC 2017\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\custom

along with a 'loc' folder for a .dat file.

Does anyone know how to get these back in Bridge 2018?

I am having the same issue where I was using a custom file info panel for years and now am unable to use it with the updated Bridge. I hope there is a solution since this specific panel is used my a good majority if visual information specialists in the Department of Defense. I tried to search for the location of the preinstalled DICOM folder to possibly locate the new folder location was did not find it anywhere.

Michael - unfortunately, you will have to rebuild your Flash info panel in the new XML Metadata UI spec.

You can download the XMP Metadata UI SDK CC 2014  for details.

If your old panel used the Flash generic panel, there is a converter tool in the SDK.

I tried to run the converter tool but it states it cannot find a compatible panel to convert. All the default panels are in the XMP folder to include my custom panel. My panel worked just fine with CC 2017.

I also informed the Bridge team about this issue. We'll see if they respond.

Well, thank you so much for all your efforts, I appreciate it very much.

I hope we have an answer soon because with my panel it is much easier to work metadatas on a bunch of files.

Again THANKS
