Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge

What are the advantages and disadvantages to having this Bridge Preference switch either off or on? Either way, a RAW file opens in ACR. Is it saying that ACR can run independently of Photoshop? Is there a RAM use advantage if set this way?

ACR can be hosted in either Bridge or Photoshop. If you uncheck the preference and double-click a RAW file, Photoshop launches and ACR handles it there. I haven't found any additional documentation beyond that.

I used to do a lot of processing of images at work using scripts, so I would open my files in ACR via Bridge (right click, and choose open in ACR). In doing it this way, I could have PS run my scripts, but I could still correct images in ACR while PS was busy.
