Error Msg: Cannot edit read-only files?

Help... Batch renaming hundreds of images and adding keywords and metadata. I'm now receiving an error message that says "cannot edit read only files"? What is going on? I'm on deadline. Cleared the cache in tools as per an answer in another thread but still nothing. Please help.... Thanks in advance.

    Thank you John for your reply. The images are not read only. If this helps to figure out the problem, of the 3 options, to where to save the image, 2 are ghosted. I've been using "rename in same folder" but now can't even access it. Any clues would be much appreciated.
