Question

File associations in Bridge

I have found that siometimes Bridge does not update the file associations page after updating Photoshop.  You click on an image and it will spawn an older version of Photoshop than what you have installed.

My question is other then going in and reassociating each file type to the proper application one by one is there some other way to get Bridge to point to the latest version of PS automatically for those file types that it should open?  Manually having to repoint the file types one by one is a lengthy task to do and I have to beleive there is a more elegant solution.

Thanks for any solutions - I get this question a lot recently.

Sorry, one by one only.

It does not take too long as there are only a few to do like psd, jpg, tiff, png, or maybe a few more you use frequently.

Furthermore once you did one PS remembers the path and subsequent file types are quickly done.

Ronald. Thank you for the reply.

I find it odd that when you are in a situation where you have just updated
Photoshop that there is seemingly no way to get Bridge to recognize the new
version automatically.

As simple as it may seem on the surface to re-point all of the file
associations I am in a situation where I process images from multiple
sources and just need Bridge to work and open the latest version all of the
time. There are many file associations I have to address one by one and
just find it hard to believe there is no script to go and replace all
instances of pointing to the older version to be changed to point to the
newest version.

Adobe software engineers so diligently work on the application and push out
the wonderful updates as you do yet the weak link in the path is not
connecting Bridge to take the user to the latest version. In my Adobe user
group here in Maine there have been several instances of people not seeing
the same options that I have on my screen even after that report getting the
update. In about every case it is determined they are opening the image
through Bridge as they traditionally do but they are opening an older
version of Photoshop and unless you have a keen eye or go and check the
version you would not know that you were not using the latest and greatest
version.

it just seems like this this file association function has slipped through
the cracks in the upgrade process.

I will continue manually updating but hope you can find the right audience
at Adobe to present this to for a better solution.

Thanks - Respectfully, Mike Leonard
