Question

Files suddenly will not open from ACR

I use Camera Raw and Photoshop and Bridge daily. I have the most recent versions of all 3 installed (24.4.1). Today I worked on about 6 photos and ACR behaved normally. Then I opened the next batch of 3 photos in ACR (from Bridge), made my adjustments, highlighted them and selected "OPEN", nothing happened. They would not open in PS.

After trying dozens of different fixes, I finally discovered that they will open IF I don't use "Open in Camera Raw" from Bridge. If I use "Open..." - it opens in ACR and will then Open in Photoshop.

I can use "Open With Photoshop" and that works as well. But suddenly "Open in Camera Raw" does indeed open in ACR, but will not Open in Photoshop from there. This happens with multiple files selected, or just one file. Something is weird with "Open in Camera Raw".
This is disturbing.

I tried disabling/enabling "Use Graphics Processor", I've closed and opened Photoshop and Bridge. I've restarted my computer. No luck. For now, I will use "OPEN" instead of "Open in Camera Raw", but I'm really nervous. I use Photoshop, ACR and Bridge daily and rely on it for my livelihood. I need it to work properly and not do weird things.
I'm on Windows 10.

I am not having this problem anymore, everything is working as expected, so I'm not going to reset preferences. If it happens again, I'll try that and let you know. I don't know what changed, why it behaved that way, or how it was corrected. I didn't do anything other than what I listed in my original post, but I will leave it alone for now.

ACR can be hosted by both PS and Bridge. Here the first works, the second doesn't.

So any troubleshooting here should focus on Bridge, not Photoshop.

Please try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset-preferences

Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#backup-photoshop-preferences

Reset your ACR preferences also.

Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (MacOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).

Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?
