Flaky behaviour from Bridge

I have an ongoing problem (several actually), i.e. it's been happening for years now but Abobe's tech support is either useless or just non-existent.

Firstly, Bridge quite often fails to respond to any clicks. I can activate Bridge (i.e. make it the foreground application) by either clicking on a visible part of the window or using the application switcher to bring it to the front but then it will not respond to any further mouse clicks.

I need to go to another active application (any app will do) and then go back to Bridge before it will respond to mouse clicks.

The next problem I have is that if I have more than one window open in Bridge I can quite often be browsing one of the open windows and then - without any input from myself - one of the other open windows springs to the foreground.

If I double click on a file just as this happens I end up opening a wrong file (and this has happened several times).

One of the open Bridge windows will sometimes even leap to the foreground when I am in a completely different application.

Another problem I often have is when quitting Bridge I get an error message "The file cannot be found" or words to that effect. I assume it is trying to write to the cache file but can't, for some reason (or I could be totally wrong about that).

The last issue is with Bridge just simply locking up in use... I get the spinning beachball which can persist for several minutes and I have to force-quit Bridge and reopen it.

I have performed all the usual trouble-shooting fixes... deleting preferences and caches, purging the cache, resetting Bridge when I launch it. I have even tried using Bridge in another user account to see if that fixes it. I have also disabled or deleted some third party applications or system modifiers to see if they are the cause.

Unfortunately, none of this has worked.
