When I try to purge the cache in bridge, it takes forever to the point where it stops responding to commands. How do I repair this? I've tried to uninstall and reinstall. but the same things keeps happening.

By default, Bridge cache always stores every single thumbnail adding it to the existing cache.

If you let Bridge increase cache (just previewing images/files), after weeks, months, years, the cache could be still there and could be so huge that it take lots of patience and time to delete all the files/folders.

This is exactly your problem. The cache files can also be deleted manually and they are stored on the user preferences.

For example I have a team that is always previewing more then a thousand images/day, but they only need to preview the images once and they don't need to recurrently preview them again. In this case, is better that they clean the cache every day. For this, I use a script that clean automatically the cache when Bridge closes.

So, if you don't need to get fast previews over the past stored images, you need to delete cache and keep Bridge cache light.

How to clean cache manually?

Go to preferences > Cache > and read where you cache is stored ( location: ??? );

On windows or mac, open a window and browse to that cache folder;

You will find 4 folders:

     256

     1024

     full

     data

Delete all of them. If the cache is huge, it could take time, hours to delete.

After all finished, restart Bridge.

I've got Bridge CS4 and CS5 on the Mac running Yosemite 10.10.2. Is there any way to delete preferences and purge cache without running Bridge?

Bridge is opening for me but just freezes and can't run operate any controls. When I open Bridge with the option pressed (or option + command + shift), I select Reset Preferences and Purge Entire Thumbnail C ache. A window opens saying, "Do you want Bridge to start at login so that it is instantly available when needed? This option can be changed in the advanced section of the preferences." But I can't select Yes or No, because Bridge is frozen. Oddly, when I go to Force Quit Applications, Bridge is shown to be running fine.
