How do I setup filtering down through subfolders?

I'm using version 9.0.3.279

I'm lmay be looking for a good cataloging program. Right now I use Bridge, but I wish I could find a way to tag and filter my images that would carry into subfolders. I have my  images broken up into years and months with each year, but if I tag an image, it  seems that tagging is only good for filtering within that folder and not in all my folders. If Bridge can do this, I need to learn how, and I'd appreciate any tips. But if not, does anyone know a good program that can handle this?
