Images dissapear when batch renamed

I have recently bought a new computer - Windows11Pro , and opened images in Bridge. I renamed the shots and now all I can see is a placeholder icon - no image shows. I shoot Nikon, I have purged, tried older versions of Bridge . I can 'see' images from the past(haven't tried to rename or add metadata), just can't see images from this week. after downloading a job I get an alert - Maximum tabs opened - no idea what that means. I have worked with Photoshop since PS4. I have a scratch disk and a raid drive that i put jobs on. NVIDA GeForce RTX 3070Ti.  So I just did it again with the images and when I rename the files that's when the content images dissapear.   I have the preview screen in the middle with content in filmstrip mode on the right. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

That's a very strange filename extension!

What is it?

Bridge is not recognising that.

It only recognises standard extensions like jpg, CR2, dng etc.

Look in Bridge Preferences>File Type Associations and you will see a list of those it "knows".

If you use a manufactured extension, then files will not open in the applications which are designed to support them.

The maximum tabs warning apparently comes in if you use the Photo Downloader, not sure what additional conditions but Bridge is trying to show each image. If you toggle Show Hidden Files in the View menu, do you see XMP sidecar files with your RAW images? There have been some (now fixed) bugs with sidecars not being renamed, so be sure to update Bridge to the latest version (I'm still on Bridge 2022 FWIW.)

I can see the sidecar.

A screenshot showing the rename dialogue settings which you used would be useful.

You have to retain the same file extension.
