Issue w/ Bridge 2023 and AE 2023

Two issues.. any insights?

1. why do some of these presets not show a preview, and instead, just an icon? (see icon.jpg)

2.  double-clicking an animation preset results in an error message in AE... I found i can right-click to select "Place in After Effects".. but that's not what the reference I am learning from instructed.. did behavior change?  is something messed up w/ my install?  Happens whether I have characters selected (text.png) or the text layer selected (layer.png).
