Load Files into layers not working on smart objects

In ACR I set the images to open as smart objects.

When I try to add multiple files as layers via the Photoshop Tools Menu Item, it refuses as it will not work on smart objects.

In the previous version of photoshop this worked by opening the images as non smart objects. This worked well, so can we please have it back?
