Need Help with Camera Raw Files

For a few years now, we have been having on and off issues with Bridge reading some of our camera rar images from one computer to another computer. The Camera RAW edited images seem fine on OG computer but once opened in Bridge on another computer some of the file's edits do not appear and image revert back to their "out of camera" form with all ratings and labels removed.

Not sure if Bridge can not see the XMP's or some premissions are not allowed.

If they are opened again in Camera Raw on "new" computer, it opens a unedited rar then proceeds to overwrite with new data when saved. We've tried purging cache several times on each computer, adding to file handing and reset settings / workspaces as seen in similar posts but nothing seems to work.

We have this issue pop up a couple times a year so it's hard to pinpoint what the issue is. We usaully have to work around the problem and run the images seperatly from the respective computers they were edited on. Which is time consumming and annoying when running/editing 1000 images, then having make sure your edits have sticked. It's now becoming impossible while telecommuting in 2020 and working on seperate computers is essential.

I really would like to know if anyone else is running into the same issue. We work with both Nikon & Canon files and do not use Adobe Lightroom. We usaully work from primary folders on external hard drives while using Bridge & Photoshop with NIK software extension.  Also update when possible.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Camera RAW has a different forum that is managed by Camera RAW team. We request you to post this concern there. The link for it is : https://community.adobe.com/t5/camera-raw/bd-p/camera-raw

Hi Estelia,

The first things that pops into my mind are 1) are you using a server? and 2) are you keeping the XMP (aka sidecar) file with the image?

Bridge was never designed to work on a server so if you are doing this, your success will be iffy. There's not much that can be done to help you because you are not using Bridge as it was designed. (Sort of like using a hammer as a screwdriver, it can be done but you may not like the results.

As far as #2, IF this is part of the issue, you might want to consider converting your raw (nor rar) images to DNG images. Both have the ability to always preserve the actual original image but DNG images are, by their design, containers that hold both the image data AND the xmp data. The image is never changed, only subject to the changes in the xmp instructions.

You can download the DNG converter here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html

Let me add that I've been using the DNG format from the very beginning and I'd never go to straight raw images.

let us know if this helps you or not.
