New Bridge does not work at all for me!!!

I "upgraded" to the latest version of Bridge, an application I've been using for decades.  Now absolutely nothing works.  I cannot open a disk that contains, of course, all my photos.  The folders sidebar shows the disk, but no caret to open it and the folders in the subsequent hierarchy to get at the files I want to work with.  What in the world is going on?

I will be ignoring many of the too-frequent "updates" to the suite of apps in the future.  I'm getting tired of starting from scratch each time.  I need to get some work done.

You need to go into your permisions settings and allow access to your drive.

Catalina has major permissions followup  for many apps.

    When you don’t see a caret next to the disk, are you looking in the Folders panel or in the Favorites panel?

    Because the Folders panel should be fully expandable as always, but the Favorites panel is just a list of shortcuts, and works exactly like the list of aliases in macOS or shortcuts in Windows.

    Thanks for the response - in the folder widown there is a caret on my boot disk, but no caret on either of two external disks, where my files are.  When I click (or double-click) on anything in the Favorites window, nothing happens. 

     

    I just noticed something new - the little "progress spinner" is going full-time in the bottom margin of the "Content" window.  I can quit Bridge and open it again, with the same result.  The windows come up almost instantly, as if it never quit and was just in the background.
