No preview of .cr2 images stored on camera

When browsing my Canon 7D II with Bridge, I'm unable to get a preview of my .cr2 photos or read the metadata without importing them to the computer first. If I browse the camera with Lightroom, previews and metadata is working just fine. Is this unsupported by Bridge?

I have cleared the cache and updated Bridge and Camera Raw to the latest version.
