Question

opening files from Bridge content panel

I happily used Bridge for years in my CS6. Now running Mac OS Catalina and Creative Cloud All Apps. Bridge is so slow, but most frustrating, so far, is selecting a file (jpeg, png, pdf, psd, anything), & double clicking - nothing happens. Try Command > O - nothing happens. Try several other suggestions made in an Adobe forum - the only thing that works is to drag the file onto the appropriate app - this is a drag!

Bridge was a wonderful tool for so many years, why make it harder to use??

Well, partly. I made sure to get rid of traces of my old programs, then I did uninstall Bridge and installed a fresh copy. But also needed to change the name of the folder I was working with. The folder name had a punctuation mark, which had not been a problem with CS6 Bridge or earlier OS. All seems to be working now. Thank you.

Hi Mkelly,

I hate to say this but CS6 was fine with Catalina but the current Adobe CC applications require nothing less than Sierra. But to be safe, be aware that every year that Adobe releases a major new update, the OS requirements go up a year as well. So currently the minimum os is Sierra, but when MAX comes out it very well could be upped to High Sierra by October.

I do not know how new/old your computer is but be aware that at a certain point you may need to update your computer. However, I have a 2015 5k iMac and I'm doing just fine with Big Sur.

Also, one suggestion IF you need/want a new computer and if you need to make some choices, the most important thing you can invest money in is the video ram. Seriously, get the best available. Second is computer ram. The more ram you have, the more applications you can have running at the same time. I have 32 and that's been fine for me and I often have a bunch of apps running at the same time. The last thing to spend money on are the number of cores. More cores are better than fewer but you get less bang for your buck with cores than you do with the other two.

I hope this helps, I know it was both not what you wanted to hear and it was more than you wanted.

Hi gary_sc,

Thanks for your good advice re. what to look for and buy with a new Mac - which I plan to do next year.

My Mac is a Late 2013, which could be updated from Mojave to Catalina v. 10.15.7, but couldn’t make the next step to BigSur. Info I received from Apple and the web was that CS6  could not be used with anything beyond Mojave. (BTW, High Sierra was a step back from Mojave).

Anyway, now I've got CC and would like Bridge to work!

Hi Mkelly,

(Sorry for my Brain Fart and forgetting the order of the Mac OSs. You are correct). And you are correct that the current CC should work with Catalina.

Some things to try: Have you tried rebuilding Bridge's Preferences? Here's how:

First, quit Bridge (if open). Then, when launching Bridge, press Command-Option (Mac)/Control-Alt (Win) + Shift to choose “Reset Preferences”, Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache”, and/or Reset Standard Workspaces.” In your case, chose "Reset Preferences."
