Question

Remain in current folder view while adding files to a collection

When I drag and drop files into a collection in Adobe Bridge, Bridge automatically switches to the collection view.

For image selection and curation workflows, this interrupts the process because I have to manually navigate back to my original folder after each action.

I would like an option to add files to a collection while remaining in the current folder view, for example:

  • A preference setting: "Stay in current folder after adding to a collection"
  • Or drag & drop behavior that does not automatically open the collection

This would significantly improve efficiency when working with large image libraries and collections.

Thank you for considering this enhancement.

Hi, @practical_life568f, That’s a good idea, and maybe/hopefully, Adobe will pick up on that. In the meantime, I can suggest how I deal with things like this where I want immediate access to several collections/folders/etc., is to have multiple Content Tabs.

The way this works is to first open up your primary content tab of the images you are working with. Then right-click on the Content tab’s name and select “New Content Tab.” Then, while that is selected, click on the Collection you are working on. This will switch the new Content Tab to that Collection, and you can click on the first Content Tab to continue your search.

At this point, go through your images, select the image(s) you want to move to the Collection, drag up to the name of the Collection’s tab, and Bridge will shift to that tab, lower your drag so you are in the contents area, and let go. Poof, they are now in the Collection.

One other suggestion on this, I’d press one of the number keys to give the items you’ve selected a rating or color so that you know what items you’ve already added to the Collection. This can be done at any time, so you can mark any of the images first, and then move to the collection, or after moving to the collection, mark them (and the rating/color will show up in the original folder. Whatever method works in your workflow.

Please let me know if this works for you, I’m curious.

I don’t see this happening on my system. I have the Collections Panel open on the left of my large Content Panel and I can drag images from Content Panel into a collection in the Collections Panel and the view remains the same, view remains in the same folder.
