Replaced photos disappeared!

Hello! I am a photographer, and I really need help with a problem in Bridge on Mac.
Yesterday, I selected the best pics from a photoshoot and placed them in a separate folder "FOR SEND" to make smaller size copies of them in photoshop and send out to the client (I was going to put back the original best photos after I'm done). I saved these photos in a new folder inside "FOR SEND" and named it "for send"

After that, I took out the folder "for send" to the original folder that contained "FOR SEND" and it said that I should do something about it because these 2 folders have the same name. I pushed the "replace" button, but instead of saving one of the options and deleting the other, it said something like: "error: some items may not have been processed" after which both folders disappeared. I couldn't find them in trash or via file system. However, they must still be on my computer because the amount of free memory on my laptop didn't decrease.
I tried the same thing with some other folders, and they also disappeared. I also tried it on another Mac, and the same thing happened: turning the computer on and off didn't give any results, but I'm afraid to restart the computer with originally lost files - what if they are stored in some temporary folder?
Couple of minutes ago, I tried to open bridge to check for any changes, but now it doesn't even open. What should I do? This was a commercial photoshoot and I already got paid for this, so I desperately need to restore these pics!! Please, please help me!

Look into file recovery software or even a data recovery service. Always, ALWAYS have a backup. Are the photos still on your memory card?

First off, Bridge didn't delete your photos, the Mac OS did. This whole story is no different than if you move a single file called "greatphoto.jpg" into another folder containing the image "greatphoto.jpg," and you'll get the same warning. You might check the contents in your trash can, that's the most likely location to look.

Are you using Apple's Time Machine? If not, it's a great insurance option to guard against, brain farts such as this (it has helped me innumerable times).

Good luck and let us know if you find the images in your trash contents.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I tried looking up Trash, it's not there. As for time machine, I'll start using it it. Is there anything else you can advise me to do?

And not to inflame your situation ............ but

Good reason NOT to work on original files under any circumstance.

Originals and saved a off line on a hard drive and write protected.

You always work with copies of original

Files are located on a different drive, in  a different location.

Nothing  changes ones attitude like oh oh, I think I just F up something.

Cost of such things seem irrelevant now.

I  wish there was a way, but Gary is right.

You could take your machine to a hard drive recover operation and they might  find them, but the cost would be astronomical.
