Search: Can't turn off "Search in Subfolders" persistantly

Latest Bridge on Win 10 here. When I enter a string into the top right search box Bridge doesn't only search the current folder, but also subfolders. I don't want this to happen by default. Therefore, I unchecked "Include all Subfolders" in the Advanced Search dialogue.

With Advanced Search open and the subfolders-checkbox unchecked I can indeed limit search to just the current folder level. But this only works as a one shot option. As soon as I close the modal window and use the search field again, I'm back to subfolder search. Also, the advanced search dialogue once again has Search in Subfolders ticked active.

Is there a way for me to limit simple searches to just the current folder – persistently?

Hi Polyxo,

This is getting annoying (not you, Bridge). I thought I had found a bug but after sending the previous (now cut) message, it was not doing what I thought it was doing.

Can you please show me exactly what and where you are doing your searching in?

Thanks,

Hehe :o).

I see a perfectly expected result when I open the Advanced Search dialogue and uncheck Search in Subfolders (I searched for a brand name in which is common in several product shots).

If I now close the Advanced Search dialogue and search for exactly the same term from the Search Box in the Header I get both subfolder icons and the content of subfolders served. The Search option is set to Current Folder (see screenshot.

When I  chose Advanced Search from this little Menu, I can see that the value of the tickbox has changed to Include all Subfolders again. This is repeatable.

I see two malfunctions.

  • The checkbox changes its status without user-intervention
  • The Search box in the Header says it searches in just the current folder, but in fact it looks deeper.

Right now, to limit the search depth to just the current folder I need to run Advanced Search and uncheck the Subfolder option. The checkbox even stays clear when I call Advanced Search again (Ctrl + F). But as soon as I reuse the Search box in the GUI the dreaded Subfolder option is checked again...

Can you repeat this on the Mac? Thanks a lot for your time.

Hi Polyxo,

Let's do you one better: not only make it persistent but let you change it easily:

Adjacent to the the Bridge search field is a dropdown that let's you chose how deep to search. Will this work for you?

Thank you, Gary.
I am aware of these options – however, even with current folder checked I get search results shown which lower in the folder hierarchy (I just tried once more). And when I open Advanced Search from this dialogue (on Windows) Search in Subfolders is always checked, although I had unchecked it many times already...

Hi Polyxo,

Can you please try these to maintenance processes. If the first one works, great, if not try the 2nd and if that one fails, I'm stumped.

#1) rebuild the Preferences:

Rebuild Bringe’s Prefs

“You need to rebuild Bridge’s Preferences:  When launching Bridge, Command-Option (Mac)/Control-Alt (Win) + Shift to choose “Reset Preferences”, Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache”, and/or Reset Standard Workspaces.” In your case, chose "Reset Preferences."

If that doesn't work, try this:

#2) Dump the cache:

Go into your Tools (menu) -> Cache -> Manage Cache ... and you'll get a window popping up:

Select the button (in the red rectangle), click "Next" and follow along.

Let me know, good luck!
