Sharing images between Mac and PC users on different servers questions

The company I work for is looking for a way to share images from our graphic department with our sales team. The graphics team works with macs and currently houses their images on a different server then the sales team. Ideally they don't want to house images on the cloud but would like a way for sales to be able to view and search for images using keywords within the graphic departments image libraries.

The graphics department already has the adobe suite and uses bridge. Would the sales team be able to download a free version of Bridge on PC to be able to search the graphic departments images if they were allowed limited access to the graphic teams servers?

Answers or suggestions are much appreciated

We are trying to save as much money as possible and this seems like a viable solution if it can work?

What platform are the sales team on? Is this LAN or VPN network access? Once the sales team finds their image, then what? Do they need a copy? For what purposes?

It may be easier to duplicate or mirror your working images for the sales team to access. I would start with that. Connect to it from a sales computer and try some searches.

Servers, NAS systems have issues with share violations, permission issues and as a rule do not allow the ability to have standalone programs work with individual files.

There are asset management programs called DAM that allow limited access to individual files.

These programs are usually proprietary in nature and very expensive to roll out on a multi-seat license policy.

If you allowed the ability to let anyone access a file at anytime and make corrections without some form of documentation and control, you are opening yourself up to a complete mess

We as of now with the current issues and money an issue we are trying to solve the issue while spending least money. A DAM would be ideal but costly.

Anyone can download a free copy of Bridge but they do need an Adobe account (which is free) to download Bridge.

The catch is that Bridge does not play well with Servers, it was meant for individual users. You can try it (costs nothing) but if it doesn't work it's because Bridge was not designed to work that way. I am unaware of any chance of this in the near or far future.

One other possibility is to use Lightroom. Within Lightroom you can pull selected images into a Catalog that can be synced online that can be closed to all, open to all, or open to selected people via sharing a unique URL. This would be accessed via lightroom.adobe.com and would be free to anyone with a browser. And yes, they can also put comments with individual images.

Thank you for your reply. I was looking into lightroom as well but from what I saw that would allow the sales team to be able edit the image? Which is something we don't want them to be able to do.

Hi Esapco,

That is incorrect. What I'm going to do is to send you (via a PM) a link to some of my files. See if you can edit them.

I should add that there is no "team" Lightroom, so your design group could not access all of the images on a server. There are ways to deal with this in regards to your needs and I can suggest them to you at a later time.

Let me prepare a small group of images for you, give me a few minutes.
