Star Rating not working

Hello All

Adobe Bridge CC 2017 running on Win10

I have been reviewing images and the Star Rating shortcuts have stopped working (ctr+1 thru ctrl+5). The labels still work (ctr+6 thru ctrl+9). I can place a start rating on an image from the menu bar, but that is a pain in the butt when reviewing hundreds of images. The ctrl+1 shortcut was working up until a week or so ago. Any ideas on whats wrong? There may have been a "fat finger" along the way but I sure could not e4xpand on that.

Is there a simple way to get this working again?

Thank you

John Munro

Hi Labjohn,

You can try purging the cache by doing the following:

  • Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Bridge > Preferences (Mac OS).
  • Select the Cache panel.
  • Click Purge Cache.

Regards,

Sahil

Just spent over an hour with tech support getting this escalated and referring to this (and similar) threads.

For me - I can always rate with mouse. With keyboard, it's extremely intermittent - doesn't work about 80% of the time. Most often it works immediately after I've rated with mouse I'll usually be able to change rating with keyboard shortcuts. Tech support guy was unable to help but said they've fully escalated it for investigation. I'm working with video files, not photos. I don't think I've had this issue as much, if at all, with photos.

I experienced this issue after just updating the suite of Adobe products.

The solution for me was to open an image in Camera RAW in Photoshop, ignoring and dismissing the pop-up that explains the latest features and then opening the image, still within Photoshop. Followed by closing the image, and Photoshop if you wish. Saving was not necessary.

It seems that the rating system in Bridge is linked to Camera RAW. Thus, the software won't function correctly in Bridge unless Camera RAW is opened and closed from within Photoshop at least once.

Hope this helps someone

Purging Cache worked for me in 2022. I stopped using bridge because of this issue for the last few years.

Hi, i've been using Bridge CS6 till now and tried Bridge 2020 facing this same issue on OSX 10.13 (High Sierra).

The only way I could label and edit notes again is by changing OSX security preferences.

Go to System Preferences > Security > Confidentiality tab > Accessibility > Clic the plus sign (+) and add Bridge in the application list.

Close Sys. Pref. and Restart Bridge (it worked for me). On more recent system (Big Sur etc.) I guess you simply add the authorization at a different level (authorise to write on disk or equivalent). Cheers

Purging the cache only worked for one image, but when I tried to rate the next one it didn't.

CC 2021 Bridge 11.1

Start Bridge and immediately push CTL+SHIFT+ALT

In the "Reset Settings" window that pops up check the box that says [  ] Purge All Local Cache Files

That did it for me!

I'm having the same issue and tried all of the suggestions on this page. None of it has made a difference.

Hello All

I just updated to the latest Bridge CC2020 10.10.163 and the Star Rating stopped working for me.

Come to find out, it was working on all images except the last shot on the SD card. (I always view my images from the newest to oldest.)  Anyway, as I was reading the replies above, I right-clicked on the image thumbnail, went to the fly-out menu, and sure enough that image was locked. I'm not sure how that happened (unless somehow it was locked on my camera) but when I selected "Unlock" on that fly-out, all was well. Ratings worked via mouse or keyboard shortcut.

I hope that helps someone.

I had the same problem and worked with it for a week. Finally got a support specialist from Adobe who took over my computer, clicked one button and wallah...problem solved! In Bridge, click the "filter" tab (NOT the star with the drop down menu that says "show 2 stars or more", etc) then click on the tiny downward pointing arrow with the 4 straight lines beside it. It's a tiny square at the end of your tabs. Make sure "ratings" is checked. Somehow mine got unchecked. It will work immediately. If I didn't explain very well where that little button is, it's at the end of the tabs, such as "filter", "collections", favorites", or "folders", etc. When you click on the "filter" tab, the little square will brighten up so you can click on it. It lists all the tabs so you can choose which ones you want to see. I had unchecked the "ratings" tab and it no longer worked on the little shortcut with the star on the other side of the screen.
