Is it possible to show the background color of the user interface instead of the transparency mesh for thumbnails?

    No, and you wouldn't really want that. Let's say the background color is similar to the surrounding image color of the thumbnail. It would look like there is no transparency.

     

    The closest you can get to for this is to turn off transparency right here. But that will give you white.
