Understanding what Bridge is...

Can someone please give me a basic discription of what Bridge is and why to use it? I'm a photographer and have read up on it plenty but still unsure why I should consider adding it to my workflow. In the past, I just proof what I want to import into LR and just import the rest....

I regret that these blogs I wrote some time back are a bit out of date but the main focus of what Bridge's function is still pretty solid. These should help provide Bridge's function.
