What are dynamiclinkmediaserver and dynamiclinkmanager used for?

There seem to be various posts discussing issues with these consuming lost of RAM / CPU, but I've not been able to find any information on what they are actually for?

For the moment I've renamed both the files to prevent them from running and have seen no ill effect. It would be useful to know what they are actually for?
