why can't bridge neither preview nor run iPhone videos (mov)

I can open and run mov-files from the iPhone in all the video editing software (AE, Premiere, even Photoshop). I can also transcode them in the encoder. So the codec has to be available to CC.

Yet, bridge can neither preview nor run the files. Why, and can I fix it? (installing dodgy free codec packs isn't an option I want to try).
