why does the Icon for Illustrator template file in bridge looks smaller than the .ai file?

Why does the the icon in Bridge display the .ait file different and smaller than the .ai file?  see attached screen shot for my example. They are both 8.5 X 11. Am I doing something wrong in the saving process?  Thanks.
