Question

XMP files are left behind when moving files to a new folder

Hi!

A strange bug occcurs in Bridge when moving (raw/cr3) files from one folder to another. The xmp data stays left behind in the old folder.

So I placed all the photos of a shoot in a folder called "originals". I opened all of them in RAW editor where I made a selection by labeling and applied a few basic corrections to this selection. After clicking "ready" in the Raw editor the photos are updated in Bridge, the labels and corrections I applied are displayed correctly. Then I move the selected files to another folder but there all labels and corrections are gone. When I check the folders in File Explorer I see the .xmp files containing the metadata are still in the old folder.

How can I fix this bug?

Thanks, Juri

Hi Juri,

I was having this problem (dragging and dropping) and the fix for me is to use the Move to or Copy to function. Simply navigate to:

File > Move to or Copy to > [Select folder]

This appears to take associated XMP files with the RAW file! Hope that helps, only a couple of years late 🙂

Cheers, Ben

Hi @juri003 ,

Thanks for your feeback. If your .xmp files are in caps (.XMP) then this is known issue and engineering team is looking into it.

Let us know if that is the case.

Thanks,

Bridge Team

Hi Vijay Singh Negi,

Thanks for your reply. The filename and extension are both not in caps. The issue is still happening.

Apparently this is a known bug which can happen with a batch rename.

Juri

I have a windows 11 machine and I just tried that scenario twice and could not reproduce your situation.

You may want to purge your Bridge preferences first.

If that does not work a uninstall/install of Bridge may help.

Hi jbm007

Thanks. I am working on a windows 10 system. Purging preferences doesn't help unfortunately.
