Critical Workflow Regression in camera raw v18.4+ / Removal of Automatic Limitation for Batch Automation

Hi Adobe Team,

I am writing to express my strong frustration regarding the latest Adobe Camera Raw updates (v18.4 / v18.4.1). [1, 2]

With the latest update, the automatic limitation feature for mass automation/batch processing was completely removed or broken. Because of this regression, I was forced to manually limit and process hundreds of images individually, which completely ruined my high-volume workflow and cost me hours of manual labor. [1]

Due to this severe limitation, I had to uninstall the latest version and downgrade back to version 18.3.2 just to keep my daily business running. Batch automation is a core requirement for professional photographers, and removing or breaking this automation constraint makes the plugin unusable for mass editing. [1, 2]

Please treat this as a critical bug or regression and restore the automatic limitation for batch workflows in the next patch.

System Environment:

  • Previous Working Version: v18.3.2
  • Broken Version: v18.4 / v18.4.1
  • Windows 11

Thank you, and I hope this will be fixed immediately.

Best regards,

Christoph

I would like to express my disappointment regarding the removal of the automatic cropping feature that removed transparent pixels after image transformations.

This feature was an essential part of my professional workflow. After updating to the latest version of Camera Raw, it is no longer available, and there is no equivalent replacement.

As a result, I now have to manually crop hundreds of images one by one. This adds many hours of unnecessary work and significantly slows down my post-processing workflow. What was previously completed automatically now requires repetitive manual editing.

For my specific workflow, the removal of this feature makes the Camera Raw plug-in effectively unusable. A tool that was once an efficient part of my editing process no longer meets my needs because a core productivity feature has been removed.

I understand that software evolves, but removing established productivity features without providing an alternative has a direct negative impact on professional users who rely on efficient batch workflows.

As a paying Creative Cloud customer, I expect updates to improve productivity, not remove essential functionality that forces users into unnecessary manual work.

I respectfully ask Adobe to reconsider this decision and restore the automatic transparent-pixel cropping feature, or provide a comparable automated solution.

Please let me know whether this feature was intentionally removed, why this decision was made, and whether there are plans to restore it in a future update.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback.

    Kind regards

    Christoph

Could you clarify what you mean by the “automatic limitation” feature? I’m not sure which Camera Raw feature or batch workflow you’re referring to.

Could you describe what changed between 18.3.2 and 18.4, or share a couple of screenshots showing the previous and current behavior? That would make it much easier for others to reproduce the issue and understand exactly what’s broken.
