Adjusting timing on motion paths in Captivate 9 causes elements to miss their mark

Recently upgraded to Captivate 9 from 8.

Several users experiencing this issue in projects converted from 8 as well as new projects created in 9.

Elements that have Effects added such as Entrance Effect/EaseInRight work fine at the default duration of 2 seconds or greater. The issue starts when we adjust that duration down. Most of the animations we do are typically set at .5 second duration, but the problem occurs even changing it to 1 second.

When we preview the slide using either the play button on the timeline or the play slide option from preview, it looks perfect. If we hit preview in browser, preview next 5 slides, etc, the animated elements do not travel the full length of the path. This makes alignment of elements that are animated impossible. I've not seen this exact issue anywhere on the web. I've viewed a few youtube videos that indicate that the process we're using is accurate, but the results that are produced do not reflect the intent of the paths we've created. I've tested with very simple ease in animations and anything I adjust the timing to less than 2 seconds comes up short. 2 seconds and over are fine.

Any ideas or suggestions as to the cause or how to fix it? We'd really like to be able to convert our entire workflow to Captivate 9 as the Effects/Motion Path additions are something we've been looking forward to for a while, but need to be able to control where these elements land precisely where we want.

This is a problem I am having too. My project was a Captivate 8 project opened and saved in 9. It is not only happening with motion paths but with text boxes that have a faded zoom-n effect applied. Every motion path and every text box stops its motion before reaching the end of its motion path. This isn't because Captivate isn't the right tool. This is a bug and I find it pretty inexcusable since Captivate 9 also wiped out all my all Conditional Advanced Action scripts and I had to rewrite everyone. At this point, I can only hope that adjusting or rebuilding the motion paths in 9 fixes this problem. The thing is, I wouldn't have even moved this project to version 9 except that I wanted to take advantage of the certain new features but that choice was icing on the cake. The bottom line is that problems like this can be very expensive in development costs and time and how Adobe allowed Captivate 9, with such major problems as these, to pass QA and be released to the public like this is irresponsible.

If you adamant about "need to be able to control where these elements land precisely where we want", then I don't think Captivate is the right tool for the job.

Motion Path effects are still relative.  Even in Cp9 you still cannot stipulate the start and end point X and Y locations accurately.

Perhaps I should rephrase then. I need the elements to land in the same place they do at the default timing after adjusting it. If I leave it @ 2 seconds the element stops in the correct location. Every time.  I want the timing to be .5 second and have the element end up in the same location, only quicker. According to what I've seen, it should do that. I'm not asking it to recreate a pixar film. I want a smart shape to enter the stage from the left and stop so it lines up with an identical shape above it. When I hit the play button below the timeline it does just that. But if I publish or preview, it does not.

Captivate is the perfect tool for the job as we have been using Captivate since Version 6 to create these courses. Captivate 8 did it just fine, although the options were limited.

If we are doing something wrong that causes this, I'd like to change our process so that we can get the results that we want. If it's an issue with Captivate 9 code, we'd like to report it as a bug.

AFAIK and I have been using and exploring Effects a lot, also the version on CP9, is that most effects will not display correctly if you shorten the duration too much. That was also the case for previous versions BTW. I apply most effects using advanced/shared actions, which means using custom created effects, and that is where I discovered this limitation. You can call it a bug, I see it more as a limitation due to design. Simple effects don't suffer from it, but complicated motion paths need simply more time.

You'll see some motion effects in the included movie in this blog post.

May I invite you to log a feature request to be able to define exactly the start/end and other points of a motion path? I have been doing this for all versions since the release of effects. As long as not enough users do ask for it, this enhancement will not make it to the priority list. Even workarounds like being able to snap the end point to a grid point, to an object, the presence of a usable grid and guides like for other Adobe applications could help a lot. My work flow is to create a cross hair group with two line objects, which I can position exactly and trying to pull the point (not clearly defined neither) over the center of the cross hair. Effects 2.0 has already that advantage over previous versions that you can have all motion paths applied to different objects on the slide visible at once. That was not possible before this version. To create this movie, I needed a lot of patience:
