Adobe Captivate 5 freezing & crashing

Hi there,

I've recently installed Adobe Captivate 5, but so far have been unable to use it.

When I select Preferences... in the Adobe Captivate menu the application freezes and I'm left with the spinning wheel icon indefinitely.  So I'm left with no apparent option but to Force Quit.

Alternatively, if I jump straight to Create New... Software Simulation, the application appears to record for a few seconds before inexplicably crashing.

Here's my machine spec:

OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)

Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB

680 GB+ available hard drive space

I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling but the same issues persist.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix, please?

Thanks very much!

Ben

Captivate 5 is waaaayyyyy too old for that version of OS.

My suggestion is that you update to the current version of Captivate instead and save yourself a lot of angst trying to get Cp5 to work on an Operating System for which it was never designed to be compatible.

Hi Rod,

Thanks very much for your advice!  I also have a licence for Captivate 5.5 which I could install on my iMac as described OR on my Mac Pro that's running OS X 10.9.5.

Do you envisage that I'll run into similar problems with either/both such installations?

It's for a one-off project, so I'd rather avoid buying more software if I can.

If the trouble is worth the effort, you can setup a Mac OS volume in VirtualBox, so you could run Cp 5.5 in the age appropriate OS, and stay within licensing terms.

It's not for the feint of heart, as terminal commands are involved and setup of the OS within the current OS may be challenge based on your current hardware configuration.  Hardware has changed over time.

And, the current version installs as a fully functional 30 day free trial. If your time constraint is relating to a class project, you may be able to publish the work with a trial version. But beware the courses published with the trial will expire over time.
