Update: We've released an early build for Big Sur that fixes the issues that Captivate users are facing. For more details, read this post

Does Captivate work on Big Sur?

Adobe Captivate (2019 release) is NOT COMPATIBLE with Big Sur.

If you launch Captivate (2019 release) on macOS Big Sur (macOS 11), the project editor becomes unusable.

We are working on making Captivate (2019 release) to be compatible with Big Sur.

Meanwhile, you can review the current system requirements for Captivate.

I am unhappy with the delays in releasing the patch to allow captivate 2019 to operate on my iMac.

I am still stuck with Captivate 2017.

please cancel my subscription.

Please be aware that this is just a User Forum, not Adobe Support.  We do not have the power to do anything about your subscription.  You need to get in contact with Adobe Support about this.

How in the wide world of sports hasn't this been fixed yet?  $400 for the Captivate license and I get a black screen?

I was finally able to get it to work (sort of).  I followed the ridiculous steps that I found from a community user > Uninstall Captivate, restart computer, reinstall Captivate, restart computer, launch Captivate.

It now works, but not great.  Still crashing now and then.

My company (Walmart) uses so many Adobe products, CC, AEM, Adobe Analytics, etc...  and it is a shame that this one is such a mess.

Running on MacOS Big Sur 11.6.1.

Even with this build downloaded and running I'm still having issues with Captivate crashing during publishing. Is there any fix for this?

Nope. And definitely do not upgrade to Monterey.

In my opinion, and after being burned with Big Sur - don't upgrade. It may be some months before Adobe actually have a version that works on the new OS.

For those concerned about the silicon chips - feedback from a fellow Mac user is that Captivate works well with Apple silicon, due to the inbuilt Rosetta software on the Mac - as long as the OS is supported.

Unfortunately for people like me, whose Mac is nearing the end of its life - I will have to wait for Adobe before I can purchase a new Mac, because new Macs will of course come pre-installed with the new OS. After speaking with Adobe on a couple of occasions - they have not yet tested and are not yet developing a version for Monterey. This is extremely disappointing, as they would have access to the beta versions like most other large software developers.

It also seems they did not listen to the community last year, who at least requested some basic communication from the Captivate Team, to warn customers. Monterey is now available. How difficult is it to email your customer base and give an update on Monterey or a timeline?

I should add - it would even be better than nothing if Adobe didnt have an answer, but simply emailed it customers to say "do not install Monterey - we don't yet have a timeline for this". But it seems even basic email communication is too difficult.

Hi, Before I install the upcomming Monterey update could you let me know if the above release will work with Monterey? Or if a new build is ready to be used when Monterey gets released on the 25th?

I am a Windows user, but - even fearing for insults - I would never install a new Apple update because they mostly will break multiple applications.

I agree with Lilybiri.  History on this Forum has been that Apple users jump in and install the latest OS update then run into issues because Captivate is not working.  Some weeks or months later, Adobe eventually releases an update for Captivate that makes it compatible.

It's your choice if you take the risk, but I would not recommend it if you need Captivate to work in order to earn your living.

Perhaps wait for others to jump in and watch the User Forums here for what happens.  If there is going to be an issue, it doesn't usually take too long after the new Mac OS drops before the Captivate Forum lights up with complaints.

I have the latest build of Captivate 2019 for Big Sur installed. It works as long as I'm zoomed in at 200 or less. Once I zoom to 300, the display of the slide become black. I have attached a screenshot. Is anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Yes!  I had no issues with the previous MacOS builds but BigSur and Captivate_LS2019 has redraw issues.  This is very disheartening to say the least.

I just purchased Capitvate to create 360 tours for my students. I am running MacOS Big Sur 11.4 on a 16" MacBook Pro.

Compared to the Adobe Creative Suite, Capitvate does not feel like a modern Adobe app. It also does not seem to be functioning as I can't add hotspots or preview. When I exported a project just for testing, the images would not render.

So in short, it does not seem to be working on Big Sur, and it looks like I just wasted a bunch on money on a clunky and useless piece of software. Adobe should be embarrassed to put their name on this.

I have tried also to get it to work in Big Sur and it does not load. Their customer support just sent me the link to download the version I had already loaded. Sad but I will have to stop using Captivate. My feeling (with no data) is they are not really interested in supporting it. There have been no major upgrades in a long time. I have 100 projects which I cannot update. I cancelled my subscription.

After several months, had to open a project in captivate that i really needed to change and retrive content from. Still can't use captivate on my Mac. Yes, I downloaded the update. Makes absolutley no difference, when loading projects, the main captivate window still becomes invisible.
Ecvery other piece of Adobe software I use on creative cloud, no problem. Captivate - total disaster.

I have now begun telling our vendors that we will no longer purchase work done in captivate due to problems with alterations and changes and costs associated with this. So not only won't we be using it, our multiple vendors won't be now either.

I uninstalled Captivate and installed the new build but it is asking for a serial number. I went through this before and it took days to get it resolved. The work around was so convoluted. I have a monthly subscription to Captivate and they don't give you a serial number. I don't understand why they do this. I went through this two years ago and here I am again. Does anyone know how I can bypass this serial number and activate it with my Adobe account, which must know I have been paying for this thing? Thanks all!

If you have a valid subscription license all that you need to do is make sure you are logged in with your Adobe ID when using Captivate.  Once logged in, Captivate should be able to see your license.

Slight correction.  Acrobat Pro is part of Creative Cloud.
