Captivate 5 on Mac not publishing to MS Word

Using Captivate 5 on Mac OS 10.5.8 and have Word X (10) Service Release 1 installed.

I get the following message when trying to publish a project to MS Word:

Publish to MS Word failed Retry after ensuring that

- The document is not open.

- You have installed Microsoft Word

Neither of the above circumstances is the case (document is not open, and Word is indeed installed)

I hope that someone can help with a suggestion.

Save to Documents folder.  Captivate gets picky if you try to save to Network folders.

Help. I am having the same problems.

    I am  runingh Captivate 5.02.630

    Mac Os 10.7 Lion

    Microsoft Word for mac 2011 (v. 14.1.2)

I applied the patch CPWordPublish file as outlined in another thread.

The print option now works when I print handouts, but all other options still give me the:

Publish to MS Word failed. Retry after ensuring that

    • The document is not open.
    • You have installed Microsoft Word
    error.
I want to be able to use the lesson option in the print menu but I am currently unable to do so.
Please Adobe, proivide a solution for this asap.

I'm getting this same error on a PC (Windows XP).  Is there a PC version of the HotFix for this issue?

I am noticing that I don't always get the message.  It works most times when I use the Handouts, but sometimes when I use the Storyboard or Step by Step, I'll get this error.  On one of our other computers it is always getting an error, regardless of the print type we select.  In trying to resolve the issue I try it with Word open and then with Word not open.  I can get the same result regardless.

Hey there - I've read this entire post and am experiencing this exact problem with the latest version of MS Word. I can do a single slide at a time, but any more than that and I'm receiving the same error message that others have received. Thoughts? Thanx Rod

I'm still having the same problem; still using MS Word version 10.5.8. It was never resolved on my Mac.

I have the same setup as David_at_CU & am having the same problem exporting captions.  I tested this about a month ago and it worked just fine.

Like David_at_CU this is a big problem for me, for which I really need a quick solution because I have been counting on this capability, so I'm hoping a solution can be offered soon.

If I cut my 70 slide, text heavy project down to 4 slides, I can export the captions to Word. Is there a limit to how many slide captions can be exported, or some other system setting I need to change?

This question is is urgent and has not been resolved.  Please help, Adobe!

    October 28, 2010

    Hi there,

There is no limit on the number of captions you can export. Can you share the project ?. It will help us investigating well on the issue. You may choose to upload the project to Acrobat.com and provide me the download link or you can email the project to ashwin at adobe dot come. Please do not zip the file as the spam filters might block it

I am having the same problem (same error messages as original post), and have tried a variety of solutions based on

this forum. Of the 4 publish to Word options, only "Handouts" works sometimes on the Mac platform. When Handouts does work, it does not show the background images though in the word document until the + sign for each image is clicked in the word document.

I also have Captivate 5 on a WinXP machine and have problems with the graphic elements (buttons, links, etc.) publishing to the step-by-step guides. (I'll post that issue under another title though.)

Word for Mac2008 version 12.2.7 (the most recent update 10/09/10)

    Captivate 5 (5.0.0.596)

    Running on Mac OSX 10.6.4

I tried launching Word before publishing, then b4 launching Captivate 5, and many other scenarios. Always with the same result.

    Tried rebooting too.

I hope someone comes up with a solution soon.  I am working on a very large course, with lots of captivate movies and the need for step-by-step guides.  It seems apparent to me that this is a problem with Captivate 5 on Mac.

I tested all of these functions when I installed Captivate 5 a few months ago, and they all worked at that time.

I am using Captivate 5 and Word 2008 for the Mac.  The publish to print appears to work but no screen images appear.  This is stange because if I choose to publish to a storyboard, the images do appear.  This is obviously a bug and urgently needs fixing by Adobe.  Also they need to add Microsoft Word and a requirement in their technical spec.  This is all very frustrating as my client is wanting screen shots of the programme development and Adobe has mislead me into thinking that their product can deliver such a facility.

    Hello,

You do not specify which option you choose for the print, except that it is not storyboard (which includes images by default). I was wondering if you perhaps choose Handouts, and did not indicate to include Questions and Objects (and there are also the images):

    Hi Jay,

Can you try this on the latest version of Word installed ( may be version12 ) ? As you said the older version of word might be the reason for the error.

Couple of users here have mentioned its working fine for them.

    Hi Ashwin

I think the question here is to ask if it's necessary for Microsoft Word to be installed in order to Export Captions and Closed Captions or to create Handouts?

    Hi Rick,

Yes, Microsoft word is needed to Export Project captions and closed captions or to publish to word.

If Microsoft word is not installed on the system then "Export to XML" can be a better option as Export to XML also exports Project captions and Closed Captions.

My earlier post was for Jay Fresno.

I have OpenOffice on the Mac, with which I can normally open and edit Word docs. Can I not export my captions to a DOC file and then open and edit them with OpenOffice? I don't care if Captivate offers to open Word for me. I would just like it to write out the Word doc and then I'm happy to open it all by myself.

    Hi there

I believe that in order to export things properly you must have Microsoft Word installed.

I don't believe it will work if all you have is Open Office.

Does this man that Captivate relies on Word directly to export the captions so without Word installed it isn't able to create the file? Stands to reason, but it's a shame that the Mac version especially has to rely on a product that many if not most Mac users don't have installed.

I'm using version 12. It did work on a couple things then stopped resulting from the error.

When it did work, it seems to take forever-and-a-day to do its thing and I'm on a quad-core i5 with 8GB of RAM.

Seems a odd way to do its stuff.

    Hi there,

I tried to mimic your scenario by exporting a project with Captions and Question Slides. The export was successful. Similarly Publish to Word also worked fine with no issues.

Can you please try exporting your project after launching word.i.e

    1. Launch Word. Close Welcome screen if its there

    2. Now Export or Publish from Captivate 5

The export or publish to word should be successful. Let us know.

Also the Captions are showed while export, this is how its designed to show the progress of export.

    Thanks

    Ashwin,

Thanks for you suggestion. I tried your exact export procedure, however, got the same error message as before. I also tried to publish to print again (with Word running this time as you suggested), and got the same error message.
