I asked this very same question months ago and found a few ways to work around this missing link in production thanks to tot he aid of Lilybiri

Customizing or Importing Smart Shapes

Unfortunately being able to use custom smart shapes seems out of reach.

IF you have a method to customize Smart Shapes please share.

Ideally we would be able to create shapes in Illustrator or Photoshop and import them into Captivate.

IF you agree that this would be an extremely useful and desired ability for Captivate to have then please fill out a Feature Request

Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Hopefully we can make this happen.

Thank you

This is not the best tutorial I have ever made on Captivate but it does show you how you can manipulate smart shapes into a shape that you desire. Hopefully, it helps you out.

Paul,

Very creative way to work around the problem! Good job!
I am willing to admit it took me a few attempts to even think about changing the opacity when I tried to do this last time.

There are lots of different Smart Shapes available and many ways to configure them.

It could be helpful if you were to describe how you are wanting to customize them beyond what Captivate offers.

Cheers... Rick

Sorry to disagree, Rick, editing shapes in Captivate is very limited! I have been pleading either to have full editing functionality (which means pen or pencil tool with all its functionality) or being able to import SVG's created in Illustrator (or in Photoshop since latest version) as shapes and keep all the functionality of shapes. The last scenario seems to be the most logical, after all you cannot have all functionality of vector images and bitmap images included in Captivate.

I would be very happy if more users logged a feature request.
