Any buttons or other click fields I make that spcify to open a URL are not working at all in both IE or Firefox, but they work when I preview the projects or if i use local URLs, any idea on whats going wrong?

Edit: after playing around and publishing to a standalone file it seems to work, but why wont it work when exported as a webpage?

The comma i added in later for grammer, its not really there.

As for the URL bieng auto generated, if you check the box 'Export HTML' option after you hit 'Publish'. It will then create a website with the flash page embedded for you with nothing else in it.

But even if i just open the flash file with a browser it does the same thing.

Oh and by the way, Sup3rpanda - the link to nVida that you provided in the post above - is - not - valid. Were you aware of that?

You got the "comma" in the sentence containing your URL "caught" in the URL-string. It was easy to catch, but it really does show how easily the character-string of a URL can be corrupted. You might want to check again to be sure the URL in your button or click-box has no syntax errors in it (like that). An error I commonly make is to miss the shift key and place a semi-colon instead of a colon in the URL, so any of us can mess up from time to time. LOL!

    Thanks!

I'm trying to get a grip on what you just said. What does "auto generated when publishing" mean? Sounds like you believe the URL is created during the Captivate publishing process somehow, and I know that can't be what you mean because it is not possible ...

Then you really completed my confusion with "The URL in the flash file i am trying to link to is http://www.nvidia.com, pretty standard." ... Are you saying your link in the Captivate movie is not to a URL at all, but to a different Flash SWF containing a URL?

The URL i am creating is auto generated when publishing as per the 'Export HTML' option in the SWF publishing option.

The URL in the flash file i am trying to link to is http://www.nvidia.com, pretty standard.

Any local URLs on my computer work fine though.

Oh and once again thanks for all your help thus far guys, I appreciate it!

Good point, Rick. And just to add a tiny thought, it might be a good idea for purposes of testing, to use a common link instead of something from a company server that might be esoteric.

I'm thinking, test it with a link like http://www.google.com for instance. Hard to get one like that wrong while typing it ... (though I just did - LOL! - by accidentally typing a comma immediately after the period following "www." in the address (www.,google.com). And I almost missed it, too. Hah! I'm an idiot. Okay, I can accept that.

Yeah it did the same thing at home on both of my computers. One did not have any security software installed.

It doesnt seem to be browser or security related... I'm lost.

Is this possibly a limitation of the trial version? Are there limitations in the trial version other than the obvious not for commercial use thing?

    Hi Sup3rpanda

Certainly not meaning to tread on my fellow community expert Larry's toes here, but I'm wondering if it might be helpful if you could tell us EXACTLY the steps you used to create the URL. After describing this, copy and paste the EXACT URL to the post. Maybe there is simply something odd about it that someone here will notice.

Seems odd it would fail on all the different PCs you tried. Well, if it were just a simple URL it would seem odd. This is why I asked what I did. The fact it is failing on every machine you try it on seems to be indicating there is something odd with the link itself.

    Cheers... Rick

HAHA! thats exactly how i feel about security! Such a double edged sword and why Firefox is so secure by default.

That's what I'd do. Take it home and try it there ... or to your local public library if you want to test it with absolutely no security at all).

It is quite possible it is a problem with your firewall.

Just a note about network protections: If my car had been designed by a network adminstrator in todays' IT world, it would have no tires, no glass in the windows, no gas or other petroleum products ... and would be incapable of performing the function for which it was built ... but it would be perfectly safe.

Best of luck - let us know, okay?
