Any buttons or other click fields I make that spcify to open a URL are not working at all in both IE or Firefox, but they work when I preview the projects or if i use local URLs, any idea on whats going wrong?

Edit: after playing around and publishing to a standalone file it seems to work, but why wont it work when exported as a webpage?

Yeah, ive tried IE and a "real" browser, lol. Also tried on 3 different computers, even a "naked" one with minimal security on it.

Its possible that it could be our corporate firewall garbage, ill test that theory when i get home i suppose to see if the same thing happens.

Local URLs work for some reason while external ones do not.

Oh! and thanks for the help!

Opens, then closes? Not very nice of it - but if you are sure it is opening, we have a different kind of problem than just not finding the URL. Yes, it could be IE security - I blame a bad night's sleep in IE security. But you said you have tried both IE and the "real" browser, right??

Also, is the URL you are linking to on the web, or is it local (even on a intranet)?

Perhaps more important, are you located inside a firewall where a well-meaning IT tech or SysAd might have changed or limited your permissions to access outside (web) locations?

Yeah all that seems to be fine, i even tried the java script to open a webpage but it just opens then immediately closes.

Its not some sort of security option blocking it is it?

It will - or should - work even better from a SWF than from an EXE. You might check to see if the front end of the URL is being duplicated. Captivate may be placing its own prefix on the URL. For instance, look at the address bar to see if maybe the address in the link is something like:

    http://http://www.yoururl.com

If so, change the URL in the button or click-box to correspond and all should be well. Also make sure you are not putting a FTP or something else instead of a http address. And make sure the forward slashes and other syntax is correct.

Have a nice day! Welcome to the Captivate user community!
